Motivation Monday | What will you have to offer

Some of the links in this post are affiliate links.

Hey y’all! I’m back with another Motivation Monday and today’s motivation quote/topic is something I’ve been thinking about and working on a lot lately.

“Work harder in the dark. The skills you build in the dark will prepare you for the light.”

I’ve noticed this about many social media personalities that have gone viral. The reason why they have been able to maintain their audiences is because they’ve worked on their craft consistently, even when they only had 100 people watching.

In May, I participated in Mattie James’ Instagram consistency challenge, where I had to post an Instagram post every single day of that month. With the help of this challenge, the #amplifymelanatedvoices movement and one of my photos being featured on RewardStyle Like to Know IT account, I gained 800+ followers on Instagram by the end of May. I was on a high. I finally felt like my hard work was being seen. My blog pageviews skyrocketed by 150% and remained consistent through June and even July. Yes! Finally, I was being noticed.

Fast forward to July, I’ve been experiencing a stagnant growth. I’ve lost followers and gained a few, but nothing quite like what happened in the last three months. Part of me was a little disappointed because I thought I was putting out some great content and was providing a lot more value. Then, I had a little pep talk with myself and reflected on the good.

Truth is, I’ve been able to maintain my new followers because I created great content even when I feel no one is watching. The skills that I’ve built during those times have allowed me to continue providing quality content.

I’m shifting my focus from the numbers and focusing on the value that I provide because at the end of the day that’s what matters.

Examples:

Tabitha Brown: Our favorite internet auntie is a great example of this. Although the world is just now discovering her through her going viral on TikTok and Instagram, Auntie Tab has been doing the work. She’s worked as an actress and worked in the entertainment industry since 2002. She spent over 18 years perfecting her craft. It was only right that she was able to maintain her fame beyond the viral videos.

Boman Martinez-Reid ( @bomanizer ): Another great example. Similar to Tabitha, Boman became very popular on TikTok for his high quality, reality show parody videos. I discovered his videos prior to him becoming extremely viral and did some digging. He didn’t learn how to produce and edit such high quality videos during the TikTok era. His skill comes from years of practice and learning. I should also mention he just earned a degree in Radio and Television Arts.

I hoped this post provided you with the motivation to keep pushing. I’ll leave you with this:

When the world finds out about you or you have your viral moment, what would you have to offer in order to keep them interested?

Thank you

As always, thank you for reading.

Have a great week and don’t forget to show up for yourself this week.
