Setting Achievable Goals
Setting achievable goals is an important aspect of personal growth and development as a Christian. Goals provide direction, motivation, and a sense of purpose in life. However, setting goals that align with your faith and values can be challenging. In this blog post, I’ll discuss some practical tips on how to set achievable goals as a Christian.
1. Pray and Seek God’s Guidance. As a Christian, prayer is an essential component of your life. Before setting any goals, take the time to pray and seek God’s guidance. Ask Him to reveal His plans for your life and the goals you should pursue. Spend time in meditation and reflection, listening for God’s voice. When you have clarity on the goals you want to set, ask God to give you the strength and wisdom to achieve them.
2. Align Your Goals with God’s Word. As a Christian, your goals should align with God’s Word. The Bible provides guidance on how to live a fulfilling life that is pleasing to God. When setting goals, ask yourself whether they align with God’s Word. Will pursuing these goals bring honor to God and further His kingdom? If the answer is no, then it’s time to reassess your goals.
3. Set Specific and Measurable Goals. Setting specific and measurable goals is essential to achieving them. Be clear and specific about what you want to achieve and how you will measure your progress. For example, instead of setting a goal to “read more,” set a goal to “read one book per month.” This goal is specific, measurable, and achievable.
Create SMART goals.
SMART goals are a framework for setting Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound goals.
- Specific goals are clear and well-defined
- Measurable goals provide a way to track progress
- Achievable goals are realistic and attainable
- Relevant goals align with overall objectives
- Time-bound goals have a specific deadline or timeline.
4. Break Your Goals into Small Steps. Breaking your goals into small, manageable steps can make them less overwhelming and more achievable. Setting smaller goals along the way helps you track your progress and stay motivated. Celebrate each small success, and use these wins as motivation to keep moving forward. I highly recommend reading the book “The 12 Week Year: Get More Done in 12 Weeks than Others do in 12 Months”. It explains how to break your goals down into 12 weeks rather than 12 months. Here’s a great book summary if you don’t feel like reading.
5. Hold Yourself Accountable. Hold yourself accountable for achieving your goals. Share your goals with a trusted friend, mentor, or accountability partner who can provide support and encouragement. Regularly check in with them to discuss your progress and any challenges you are facing. Having someone to hold you accountable can be a powerful motivator.
My Top Goals for 2024
At the beginning of each year, I like to sit down and follow my guide above to create my new year goals. My list is much longer than what I’m sharing here because I have big and smaller goals like skincare, health, spirituality..etc. So here are some of my Big goals for this year:
- Successfully launch a new business + obtain 10+ clients and employees
My family and I have been working on a new business venture since the end of 2023. We are opening a non-medical Home Care business with the intention of providing caregivers to the elderly and disabled people. It’s a very lucrative business, especially in South Florida. We are still in the foundational stage of the business, and my goal is to close the year out with 10+ clients and employees.
- Make over 6 figures as a creator
This year marks 3 years since I left my full-time job to become a full-time creator/entrepreneur. I can’t believe it. It has not been an easy journey, but it is rewarding, and there’s still much more to learn. I’ve been able to surpass my corporate job salary year after year, but this year, I would like to exceed the 100k mark.
- Travel to 2 new countries
This goal is pretty attainable since I travel to about 4 countries per year, but I want to travel to 2 countries I’ve never been to. I already have three trips planned to three new countries, lol. So we can count this goal as DONE.
- Pay off all credit card debt
Just like the majority of Americans, I have debts. It might not be as much as most, but I don’t like the feeling of giving my money away every month to credit cards. I want that money to go towards investments, so I aim to clear my credit card debts this year.
- Upgrade my car
My father blessed me with a brand-new Toyota Corolla when I graduated high school. This year, my baby turns 10. She has served me well and is still in great condition, might I add, but I want to get my dream car this year: a Jeep Wrangler with 4 doors.
I really hope this post was helpful and that you can go forward with setting your goals for this year.
