Picture the opening scene of Clueless when Cher had all of her outfits planned out and ready to go. We all wish we had the same system, right? Just waking up in the morning without having to rack your brain choosing a fire outfit. That’s why I think it’s best to figure out some kind of system for choosing killer outfits in a matter of minutes.
Sit back with a cup of coffee, and keep on reading for tips and tricks on how to build your own personal uniform.
Figure out your personal style
For the most part, everyone has their own personalized sense of style. You might feel more comfortable in athleisure clothing or loungewear (especially this past year). Or, you might be the kind of person who loves to dress up. At the end of the day, you want to wear a selection of clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident.
Select specific colors, sizes, and fits
The most important part of creating a personal uniform is making sure that most of the items in your closet can be worn together. It helps to buy clothes and accessories that match a set color scheme, sizing pattern, and aesthetic. That way, you can throw on pretty much anything in your closet and it’s likely to be a put-together outfit. You also shouldn’t be afraid to buy several pieces that have the same vibe. That way, you’ll ALWAYS love your outfit
Store away clothes that aren’t relevant for the current season
Each season comes with its own must-have items, so your best bet is to store away items you won’t wear often. I suggest packing clothes away after each seasonal change, allowing for a tidier wardrobe and more organization. This makes it easier to know exactly what is in your closet and not overwhelm yourself with options.
Plan your outfits ahead of time
Planning your outfits ahead of time is a game-changer. What accessories will you need to go with your outfit for tomorrow? Do you need to get jeans or new shoes? Be prepared because you don’t want to look forward to wearing a specific outfit, only for it to not work out as you pictured it in your head.
Take pictures
This may sound like some strange advice, but trust me. Take pictures of yourself wearing your planned outfits to use as future reference. It’s easy to snap a quick selfie when you’re trying on the clothes in the store. That way, you’ll have an idea of how certain pieces fit you and whether they match other items in your closet.
And of course, always make sure you have basic items that never go out of style. This includes your standard little black dress, blue jeans, or simple jewelry. Your personal uniform is all about finding a way to make the most of your closet and effortlessly put together outfits. Who wouldn’t want that?
