3 Things That Brought Me Joy This Week

I came into 2020 ready to swing. I created my vision board, wrote out my goals and manifested what I wanted this year to be like. Well, as we all can see, 2020 clearly doesn’t care about our little plans. Being a person that doesn’t do too well with change, it was hard for me to adapt to this new norm in the beginning. From being locked up in my house to George Floyd’s killing to not performing well at work, I  was going through it. Knowing my history with depression and suicidal ideation, I knew I had to do something to get out my funk. So, I went back to therapy. I’ll discuss more of that in a later post, but one thing I’ve learned over this past month is that my joy is important. Yes, I can be angry at everything going on around me, but I still have to prioritize my joy. So, I’ve decided that every Friday I’ll share with you guys what brought me joy this week.

3 Things That Brought Me Joy

  1. Seeing my boyfriend after five months

Last week Friday, I flew to Texas in the middle of a pandemic to go see my boyfriend. A little backstory: my boyfriend of six years joined the military last year and will be deployed to Japan in the coming months. I took the risk of getting on a plane to visit him because it was important to me to spend time with him before he leaves, especially because I don’t know when I’ll see him again. Although our time together was short, spending quality time with him was everything. I plan on writing a post or record a YouTube video on dating long distance very soon.

  1. Hanging out with childhood friends

Since my return flight from Texas was at the Orlando airport, I was able to spend a few extra days with my friends that live in the area. There’s nothing like catching up with friends, cooking together, singing throwback songs and discussing life, dreams, goals with friends that truly love and support you. It’s like a warm blanket.

  1. I’m going to be a glam-tie of 2!

What is a “glam-tie” you asked? Well, it’s a glam auntie. If I’m going to be called auntie, it has to sound cute. Despite all the ratchetness 2020 brought us, I was blessed with the news that two of my closest friends are giving  birth this year. So, I’ll be a glam-tie to a little girl and a little boy this year. My dreams of becoming the rich aunt that brings all the gifts to the function is finally coming true, minus the rich part (eventually though).

So, yea! These are some of the few things that made my week. I want to urge you to find joy in your everyday life. Keep in mind that your joy doesn’t have to look like everyone else. You define what brings you joy.

As always, thanks for reading.
