Hey Guys welcome back to another #stylemondays post. Today I’m discussing how to style on a budget. This is for college students or anyone who wants to stay in style without braking the bank. A lot of times you hear people say things like ” wearing designer brands or expensive brands is the only way to look fab” That perception is totally false. There are different ways to stay up to date with fashion trends without spending a lot. I’m sharing with five techniques that I incorporate into my everyday style that keeps me from over spending.

1. Inspiration

When trying to form different looks, I look for inspiration in different places such as magazines, blogs, pinterest and other social media outlets. I stick to magazines that cater to an audience of my age group, because they advertise products that are affordable to their audience. I always keep in mind that I’m only looking for inspiration, not trying to imitate someone else style.

2. clothes repeater not an outfit repeater

I’m guilty of repeating the same outfit more than once, but let’s face it no one really wear an item one time and never wear it again ( unless you are more fortunate than some). I am the queen of wearing the same clothes/accessories over and over, but one trick I like to use is changing the way I wear in item everytime I wear it. For example, I can wear one pair of jeans 3 days back to back and make it look different each time. It’s all about customizing what you already have and having fun with it.

3. choose Unbranded over branded

Whenever a new fashion trend starts, more than likely there will be replicas. One way to save money is buying a replica instead until you can afford the designer version. Let’s not be confused, there’s a difference between unbranded and knock off. In my opinion unbranded is pretty much a replica of a higher brand, Like I own a pair of boots from H&M that resembles the Dr Marten Boots, but not posing as one. Knock off is having a pair of boots with dr marten written on the boots but with the designer name spelled wrong or something of that matter…

4. Student Discounts

Most places offer student discounts from 10% to 25% off simply by presenting a student ID ( in stores) or a student email ( online).  Remember every penny counts. ( Ann Taylor, Asos, Banana Republic, Club Monaco, Madewell, Topshop, Missguidedus… Find more here.)

5. Maintain a budget

I think it’s important to have a fashion budget and stick to stores that within  your budget.  I like stores like Forever21, H&M, Pacsun, Express, Aldo, Charlotte  Russe… because they are affordable. Every now and again, Its okay to treat yourself and shop at more expensive places like Neiman Marcus, Torey Burch, Zara, American Apperal…

Let me know in the comments what are some ways you stay up to style on a budget, I would love to hear….
